How do I book Cobalt Strings for my wedding or special event?
In order to secure a date, we simply require a signed contract and a paid deposit. If you are interested in booking us to play your event, simply email Amber at [email protected] and she will email you an event contract for your review and signature. Once we receive the signed contract and the non-refundable deposit, we are all yours!
How far in advance should I book cobalt Strings?
We recommend booking as soon as possible, as our calendar tends to fill up quickly. However, we do accept last-minute bookings, so if your event is next week or next year, feel free to contact us!
What types of music do you play?
We play just about everything! All of the musicians of Cobalt Strings have varied musical backgrounds and lots of experience playing different styles of music. Our repertoire list includes everything from Beethoven to Bruno Mars, Disney to Coldplay, Bach to Mumford and Sons. So whether you want classical, pop, Broadway, or timeless love songs, we can make it happen!
What if I want a song that isn't on your repertoire list?
If you have a song in mind that you’d love for us to play at your event and you don’t see it listed on our online repertoire list, just ask! We try to keep our repertoire list updates, but sometimes songs are inadvertently left off our list, so it's possible that we already have the song in our catalog. If it turns out that we don’t have the song in our repertoire list, no worries. We LOVE learning new music! We have a “new song” fee that we charge in order to cover the cost of the sheet music, as well as the rehearsal time needed to learn it. And if the sheet music doesn’t exist, we can even write an arrangement ourselves! Writing a custom arrangement ourselves insures that the song is written in a way that will best translate to string instruments. We want to do whatever we can in order to make your event exactly what you have in mind! Our "new song" fee is $100 per song, but we can offer discounted rates if you request more than 2 new songs for your event!
can you play outdoors?
Yes, we can play outdoors, but it’s very important that we are protected from the elements, as we have very valuable instruments that can be easily damaged by exposure to rain, extreme heat or cold, and direct sun. In warm weather, we require that you have us seated somewhere that is shaded and protected from the harsh sun. We also play from iPads, so if we are in the sun, the iPads get overheated and turn off. Therefore, it's important that we can be in the shade. Be aware that we cannot perform in the rain. Also note that we can not play outside if temperatures are below 55 degrees Fahrenheit. For this reason, we typically do not book outdoor events from November through February.
do we need to provide any equipment for you?
Typically all we need at the venue are straight-backed, armless chairs. We bring our own music stands and everything else that we need. We do not provide amplification–in most cases, amplification is not needed, although if your event is being recorded, sometimes your videographer will want to mic us.
How many musicians are in cobalt strings?
We perform as a string trio, comprised of one violin, one viola, and one cello.
Are you LGBTQ+ FRIENDLY?
Absolutely! We believe that LOVE IS LOVE!
should i book music for the cocktail hour?
When it comes to weddings, we often get asked about whether or not to book post-ceremony music. If you are planning on doing any photos after the ceremony, we highly recommend booking post-ceremony music. Many venues also require some kind of "flip," such as flipping the ceremony site to the reception site. So having live music is a great way to keep guests entertained while you are having pictures made or while the room/site is being flipped. We often play more upbeat, fun songs for post-ceremony music. It's also a fun time for us to interact with the guests. Sometimes we even take song requests from the guests! We call it the "cocktail hour," but we can be booked for any length of time when it comes to post-ceremony music. Maybe you are only doing a handful of photos after the ceremony and you only want 30 minutes of post-ceremony music. Or maybe you want us to play for 90 minutes after the ceremony so that you don't feel rushed during photos. Sometimes our brides even want us to play for the dinner hour, which is something we can do! We can customize our pricing to fit exactly what you need for your wedding!
Do you travel outside of the atlanta area?
Absolutely! Whether you are having a special event on the beaches of Tybee Island, in the North Carolina mountains or a destination wedding on the sand in Jamaica, we will travel anywhere in order to provide the perfect soundtrack for your event.
Do you attend the wedding rehearsal?
We typically don't attend the wedding rehearsal, simply because it usually isn't necessary. We work closely with your wedding planner to coordinate logistics and details such as cues for song changes.
Do we need to provide meals for you at the reception?
If we are only playing the prelude and wedding ceremony, then you definitely don't have to provide meals for us. If we are playing your cocktail hour/dinner hour/reception, than sometimes it is nice to have meals provided, especially if we have been traveling a long way. But ultimately that decision is up to you! :)
Can you collaborate with other musicians? i.e., vocalists, etc.?
Absolutely! If you have a special song in mind that you'd like us to collaborate with a pianist, vocalist, etc., we can definitely do that! There may be additional fees involved if we need to write custom sheet music, coordinate additional rehearsal time with the other musicians, etc. Contact us here to get a custom quote for you event!
Can you amplify your sound?
Yes! If you'd like, we can amplify our sound using instrument microphones and a speaker. Amplification can be added for a fee of $100. Amplification is especially helpful for the cocktail hour, when guests typically talk loudly and the music can be more difficult to hear.
